We had an amazing time! My expectations were superseded by the experience. A HUGE Thank you to Dave and our driver Mustafa. Our journey started in downtown Auckland. We drove to a pit stop somewhere in the country for coffee and a light breakfast. We then headed over to Whitinga and Hahei beach to get on a boat to cruise the Coromandel islands including the famous Cathedral cove. After that we headed over to the Hot Water beach, where we dug our pool and enjoyed the warm waters. After a while I jumped into the ocean water, since it got a bit hot. After that, we had lunch at a nearby town - we went with Mr. Chips. Can't beat a great fish and chips dish after a busy day. After that, we got on the infamous 309 road - which is a rollercoaster adventure in itself with tight curves and drop off - thanks for Mustafa for driving like a champ. Although, you might want to just slow it down a tad bit. Un poquito. There was a hike involved to see some of the kauri trees which are falling victims to a devastating disease throughout NZ. These massive trees are hundreds of years old. The hike got the blood flowing and the sweat, too. Thankfully, the next stop off 309 was a waterfall with the optional dip or jump into the pool. I did not jump, but i definitely went in for a swim. The water was FREEZING! yet so refreshing. The journey continued to a stop for the pig crossing. Trust me... just pull over. Then, by popular demand we had a pit stop in the official town of Coromandel for a beer! That concluded the stops. We went back to Auckland after dropping off Dave at the coffee shop near a town by Thames. We started at 6 am and got home around 7:30 pm. Yes, there was quite a lot of driving, but there were also so many different places we stopped at and some activity was involved there too. Dave was full of interesting commentary, had a fantastic attitude, and a great sense of humor. Thanks again for showing us around the Coromandel Peninsula! We will cherish the memories forever! Hopefully we get back to NZ sometime in the future. Cheers!
