Great way to visit Montserrat, especially if you have limited time. Very knowledgable and inspirational guide, decent transport and everything kept to time without feeling rushed.
This is not to be missed. A great visit to Monsterrat. The tour guide(s) were great, giving us such a wonderful experience at the mountain. The mountain view’s, monastery, history, hike, cable car, funicular were the highlight of our Barcelona visit. Definitely 5 stars!!
We had a wonderful guide, Andre, who went out of his way to make sure we all had good pictures, had questions answered and had a good understanding of the place. Montserrat is a beautiful place and I would recommend anyone visit. The bus was a faster and more convenient mode of transport, having someone to walk you through the highlights and review the history was a fantastic addition to the experience.
had a great time, enjoyed the hike, but disappointingly, weren't able to get in the line for the Black Madonna... however we were able to get their early enough to avoid the massive crush of people at mid day!
Perfect balance of sites and Church in Monserrat and Hiking. It was really great to get out into nature. Marc was a great guide.
YOU NEED PROPER WALKING SHOES WITH TRACTION in order to survive this tour because for the hiking portion going down the hill is more challenging then going up the hill due to a very steep slope with gravel and sand. Now, with that being said, our guide Roger was very sweet, welcoming and knowledgeable. He explained the history of the monastery itself and during hiking we made several stops to look at different views as our guide engaged us into enjoying the beauty of the mountains. The mountains absolutely gorgeous. It's about 45 minute bus ride from Barcelona, we went on the mountains via cable train to visit the monastery, the chapel is beautiful with green marble columns, you can see a black virgin high up in the chapel. After that we went all the way up by a funicular train and we started hiking down after taking few pictures. The views are absolutely beautiful. I don't think we were rushed at all. He would have given us extra 15 minutes to listen to the boys' choir at 1:00pm, but he also explained that the church gets overcrowded and it's very possible that it might be possible to go inside to listen to the choir. All 12 people on our tour group did not care for the choir as much so we decided to skip it. Our two teenagers had a blast during 1 hour hiking portion because they love this kind of activity. After we hiked back down, we also had a chance to grab a bite at the restaurant right next to montserrat before returning back to Barcelona. If you can fit it in your itinerary, it's well worth a visit. Not recommended for anyone with any kind of knee, ankle or joint pain. I definitely recommend Roger even if you want him as your private guide.
If you are in the Barcelona area you should definately make time to do this tour! The area is gorgeous and the tour was led professionally and efficiently!
Adrian, our tour guide, and Albert, our driver, we’re fantastic! They were attentive, professional, and answered all questions. The tour was the perfect combination of history and hiking.
We were very lucky with this trip, great guides from WE Barcelona, lovely small group, the weather made it magical as we took the funicular to the top of the mountain to start our walk the cloud that we had brought with us just nestled in the valley like a large soft mattress, Superb and time to get back down to hear the choir sing, highly recommend this trip.
This was a great day trip for our family. My kids are young adults so they were able to appreciate everything. We were late getting to the meeting spot and they waited for us, which was nice. The ride was comfy, however if you get car sick, you might want to take something. The ride up the mountain is beautiful around winding roads. Make sure you eat before you go, you will not have time until the end of the tour. We went in June, it was hot and sunny. Glad we had sunscreen, hats and water. Wear sneakers or hiking shoes. The hike is on a path, but is on an incline or decline for most of it. Our guide was great! Full of knowledge. We had a great time. Would have liked more time at the end for eating, shopping and wandering on our own. We had less than an hour. Other than that, we loved it.
Really nice tour with two young enthusiatic Catalan tour guides, Adrian and Mark, who were very happy to share the history of Monserrat with their guests. They were super organized and very patient with guests as well.
This is one of my favorite tours when visiting Barcelona. Flavio was such an amazing tour guide!! The trip started with an hour ride to Montserrat where we then took a funicular to the top of the mountain to hike down the mountain of Montserrat. Along the way, my friend and I took many beautiful pictures of the scenery. I would consider this to be a light hike since you are descending down the mountain. You are not walking uphill once. I would recommend you to wear good sneakers. If you have any knee issues/injuries, this part of the tour might be difficult for you since some of the descent might be steep. There will be a part of the hike where you will get a visit a monumental cross. In order to get there, it is a 5-minute hike downhill off the main path to see it and in order to get back, you will have to hike back up which might be difficult for people who have physical limitations. Part of my tour group decided to stay behind since it would be difficult to walk back up up the hill to the cross. However, I would recommend it for anyone who is somewhat physically fit because you will get the best panoramic view of the monastery from the location of the cross. It was worth the walk. When we arrived at the monastery, my friend and I got a few quick pictures in and decided to use the rest of our free time to explore the farmers market and shops. We got artisanal oils and chocolates made by the monks which were delicious. If anyone is into buying specialty oils/snacks, you might want to grab some here. Flavio made everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. Overall, my friend and I loved this tour since it had a little bit of exploring/hiking and downtime.
