We felt scammed. On the positive side-the driver was waiting for us when we got off the ship. The car was clean and he was very nice and courteous. The drive to Rabat was pleasant. Our guide, Mousaf, was waiting for us when the car pulled up. Mousaf was very knowledgable. Now the bad-Mousaf smoked constantantly, he talked on his phone constantly and since he has been a guide so long he stopped and talked to every guard, guide or person he knew on the entire tour. There were only 4 of us so this did not feel like a very personalized tour. The description of the tour said you would have lunch on your own. We thought the guide would take us to an area where we could have lunch or he would make a suggestions. He said we were going to a local family place. When we got there the cruise ship group had already arrived. We did not expect to be with big tour groups, that is why we took a private shore excursion tour. Here is where the big scam came into play. The menu had 4 selections-each priced from 24-32 US dollars. We said that was too expensive, we did not want to eat there. Our guide said, no no, that is for all of you. Each one of us asked the question of either Mousaf or the waiter, or the owner. We were quite concerned about the cost. They told us no problem-it was for all of us. Understanding us was not a problem, they all spoke English. When our bill came it was for 119!!! If they had been honest with us we would have ordered 2 meals for the 4 of us, there was plenty of food as it was served family style. We were on a cruise for heavens sake, we didn't need an overabundance of food! Our guide left us prior to our meal arriving. He gave us a time that our driver would pick us up to get us back to the ship. We had to finish our expensive meal in a hurry because the service was so slow due to the large tour group. Our guide was at the restaurant and came by and gathered us up to go. We were not left alone there. We still had the King Hussain V mosque to visit in Casablanca prior to our drop off. The mosque is quite close to the port. We were unable to go to the mosque because traffic in Casablanca is so bad. Our driver tried very hard to get us to the mosque, since it is part of the tour but we assured him we would rather get to the port in time than have to worry about getting to the mosque and getting back. All of us were relieved by that decision. The other thing, we went to a market. I don't know what I was thinking-the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. This is not what this was. It was a local place that sold rugs and do other Moroccan handicrafts. So there was a rug demonstration. The people there were nice but it was not what we were expecting-another rug show. The low rating is entirely due to the fact that we felt scammed by the lunch. The driver was excellent. The guide was on time-although we were not the center of his attention. We just expected that on a private trip we would not be with huge groups for a local meal.
