We (the four of us only) arrived a little late and found our driver waiting for us patiently. He did all the driving because we wanted to enjoy and take photo. He courageously got a new jeep from the rental company when the first has one broken seat belt. Stopping at quiet beach and wine tasting place according to our desire. At one point, we wanted to go to another location and he took us. We enjoyed the snorkeling with lots of fishes swimming around us. Always friendly and caring. Recommended from the four of us. con- difficult to find the location of the pickup from our cruise. Might help if we had a map of the direction. It is about 20 mins wait from the station for the four of us. They provided water in really small bottles. Ask for two or three at the same time. Suggestion - Getting out of the cruise port and out of the shopping centre was confusing too. Would wish someone could wait for us outside the cruise port.
Our driver was Rocky and he was the friendliest guy on the island. So knowledgeable about the resorts the oceanography. He took time to stop and explain the culture and the history of Cozumel, which we loved! They tour was so relaxing and peaceful. Rocky spoke fluent English.
Our tour guide Miguel was the nicest, most considerate person ever! We booked this excursion last minute, and he could not have been more flexible with our group. It was clear that the most important thing to him was to make sure that we had the experience that wanted to have in Cozumel. He was thoughtful in his recommendations, and he was as flexible as he could have been. Really knew his stuff. Now we understand why this tour in Cozumel has over 350 4.5+ positive reviews. Thank you for the fantastic memories!!!
We had a private tour and were fortunate to have Rocky show us the island, tell us the history, teach me how to snorkel and make this excursion the best part of our vacation. We spent hours, had great conversation, felt safe and everywhere we went everyone knew Rocky! Truly enjoyed him as a person and as a tour guide. It wasn’t just a tour, but he was so knowledgeable and we got a great lesson in history too. I can’t say enough about how enjoyable our tour was. The best part of the tour was the comfort I felt snorkeling for the first time because he is also a diver and he took the fear away. This will always be a great memory. You won’t be sorry, money well spent and when you see the lines of jeeps with the other tours, you aren’t getting the one on one. We didn’t book thru the cruise ship and at first I was nervous, but so grateful we did it and we had this opportunity. Fantastic!
The tour started very well. Jonathon was at the meeting point early. His English was not great, but ok. The disappointment started when we saw the vehicle he had for the excursion. I had ordered and confirmed a Jeep with automatic so I could drive and my wife could join me in the front seat of the vehicle. The only jeep that was offered was manual transmission and Jonathon had to do the driving. This meant that my wife had to be in the back of the jeep which was open and quite windy along with being difficult to hear the guides comments. We had requested a slightly different itinerary since neither my wife or I snorkeled. we were told that was no problem and we would be able to adjust the trip to include some of the local Mayan ruins. We did not visit the ruins as we were told they were closed and basically followed the same route as if we were going to snorkel. The tequila factory tour was very good and learned about the differences between organic tequila and typical commercial tequila. it was much better. We then visited a chocolate factory which fee for the admittance was not included. We were not aware of the extra charge. The tour was quite good and the presenters were very good. We then went to the same place as the people who were going to snorkel because this was the location for the lunch. The food was good Mexican fare.and the server was good. We then returned to the start location without really seeing anything different than the typical route even though this was booked as a private modifiable excursion. When we saw other vehicles along the trip and then back at the start location we saw many of the other excursion operators had far better vehicles than the one Jonathon had. The trip was still better than one with a large group, but it also was somewhat disappointing. If you select this excursion my only suggestion is buyer beware as the things that we were guaranteed by Viator did not happen in reality.
We booked this trip after watching several You Tube videos of the tour. We were excited to see the places described in the videos. We were a group of 12 family members and made sure to book this trip together and told the booking agent that we wanted to be together. When we met our guide, he only had 8 people on his trip sheet. He was prepared to leave the rest of us behind to “figure it out” but the rest of the group refused to go unless we all went together. He made several phone calls to his boss and it eventually got worked out. We had to walk to where the jeeps were parked only to find out there were not enough jeeps. The jeeps we got were really beat up, and nothing worked inside of them. We crammed everyone into 3 jeeps, 2 of which were not convertible, so no A/C and only rolled down windows to stay cool. The guide had to lead us in a small compact car.We explained to the guide what we wanted to do, but he was persistent about the agenda for the day. Our first start was a Tequila factory tour, which we were excited to see. We all really enjoyed the tour and bought some great tasting Tequila. The Guide then said we were going to another tequila tour. We told him we did not want to go to another tequila tour, but he insisted and told us to please help him so he can get credit for his boss. We basically had no choice, so off to another tequila tour for the same exact presentation, and once again encouraged to buy gifts and tequila from this place as well.We then went for a scenic tour of the island which was really nice, especially the beach locations. Due to the 2 tequila tours, we didn’t have time to stay at the beach. We stopped at a few locations for some quick scenic photos and then back in the jeep. We then headed back to the location for our snorkel and lunch. We were taken to Tortugas Playa, where we told we had to snorkel first, before we could eat. Only the kids wanted to snorkel at this point because the rest of us were starving, so most of the group missed the snorkeling so we could eat. The snorkeling consisted of swimming out from the dock of the restaurant and seeing the fish that hang around the dock. The menu we were given consisted of fajitas, tacos or quesadillas. Anything else was an extra charge. The place was a little pricey. $7 for Guacamole and chips and $10 margaritas. The last stop was for shopping again, which was nothing more than some shabby crammed souvenir shops with pushy sales people. By this point only a few of us even went inside.Riding along the beach was really nice, but that was about the only really got to spend a few minutes at 2 beach locations for photos. It is obvious that the tour is designed to take you to places that they want you to spend money and were encouraged to spend money at these locations by the guide. I would not do this tour again, as it was a long day of being “pimped out” at tourist traps.
This was a fun excursion. Our jeep had an issue with the airbag and was beeping on and off the whole time. Our guide, Julio, was wonderful. Very attentive. We really enjoyed the Tequila tasting and the stop at the local place at a beach for drinks and fresh chips/salsa. The main beach where we had lunch was average. It was very rocky. The snorkeling along the shore wasn't that exciting so we paid extra to go out on a boat for an hour to snorkel. That was excellent and very reasonable. Julio had us back in plenty of time to get back on our cruise ship.
