Matt made our day in Wicklow, Powerscourt and Glendalough a wonderful Ireland memory. He told us lots of tidbits and information that helped us understand what we were seeing. Matt is very intelligent! The bus was comfortable and lunch stop at Poppies was good too. I highly recommend Hilltop tours and Matt!
Rob the tour guide was absolutely great. Very knowledgable and friendly. The tour is beyond gorgeous, Ireland does not disappoint in its beauty.
We met our guide, Hugh, at the appointed time and place. Hugh was very punctual and very focused on starting the tour on time. He was very knowledgeable and from the moment we got into the van, he began sharing that knowledge with us. We made our way to the Wicklow Mountains and then on to Powerscourt for a self-guided tour of the gardens. They were gorgeous, and we had plenty of time to wander and soak it all in. The estate provides maps, which make a self-guided tour a breeze. From there we went to lunch in Enniskerry at a great little place called Poppies. We had some wonderful meat pies, quiche, and lemon meringue pie. We were not rushed nor did we feel like we had too much time on our hands. After lunch, we walked through the town for a feel of the place. After lunch, we drove through the boggy region at and around Sally Gap. The heather was beautiful, and Hugh provided an excellent explanation of the science behind the bogs, which only enhanced their beauty. We saw a number of lambs on our journey. Hugh drove us to the "PS: I Love You" bridge, where we had opportunities for photos. We also saw Guinness Lake and had a chance to get out of the van. In my opinion, however, the highlight of the tour was the Monastic City and cemetery at Glendalough. Hugh provided us with plenty of pointers and then sent us on our way for a self-guided tour. This whole area is so well preserved, considering the fact that it dates to the 6th century, and is just inspirational in its beauty. I spent a considerable amount of time wandering the cemetery and taking in the natural beauty of the setting, while pondering life here when it was an active monastery. These are the types of tours that so greatly enhance a traveler's understanding of a destination. We got to experience highlights of several points along the history of Ireland, and it was really a great tour. Yes, it's a full day away from Dublin, but it's so worth the time. Highly recommended.
Excellent day out, visited Powerscourt which was wonderful, had lunch at Poppies restaurant, food excellent, service and seating chaotic! Wonderful drive through Wicklow pass, and interesting visit to Glendalough, interesting talk given by tour guide. Tour guide John was really good, lots of local knowledge, this was a great taster day to see a little more of Ireland and get away from the city.
I have travelled with many groups of university students to Ireland and have used multiple tour companies. This was the best tour we have been on! The guide was thorough with his information, entertaining, and attentive to the entire group. The timing at each location worked out well and we will definitely be using Hilltoptreks in the future!
Johnny was an excellent guide. We truly enjoyed the beautiful scenery and its great to travel with a knowledgeable guide as well. Would definitely recommend.
We chose this tour in particular because people were commenting on other tours that one hour at Powerscourt was not enough and they were right. This tour gave us over an hour and a half of free time to explore the fabulous gardens. The guide, Robert, was fantastic. Throughout the excursion he was friendly and approachable and talked just enough to explain and give us historical and fun facts with his unique sense of humour but we were also left in quiet serenity for the rest of the time. The tour is very well planned and includes ample time at Powerscourt, fantastic views of the Irish countryside and lakes, a stop at the P.S. I love you bridge, a guided tour of the monastic site at Glendalough and a lovely walk to the Upper Lake. There were no problems and no hitches, it all worked like clockwork. We left at 9.35a.m and returned at 5.30p.m. It was the right duration - not too tiring but still a full day. At no point during the tour did we feel pressed for time or in a hurry. It was relaxing. The group was small, which was another plus point.
This was a great day trip. Nothing to exciting but a nice overview of the midlands of ireland. Unfortunately we didnt have good weather but still enjoyed it. Be prepared to walk though.
Nice short recomendable trip which to amazing Glendalough and Wicklow mountains. Trip was qiute well organized, driver and guide in one person.
We had a wonderful time and did see more then we expected. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our meet up location was away from the cruise ship port, but we were able to find it easily with help from people on the street. I highly recommend Powercourt, if you visit Dublin. I wish we had more time at Wicklow. Nice local stop for lunch.
A tour that's worth every euro I paid. Saw a lot in a very short span of time. Highly recommend this tour. It's informative and my two teenagers and my husband enjoyed it a lot.
Loved the gardens, the small group tour and the tour guide. The little lunch place we went to was superb. Wicklow was breathtaking.
Great tour with Johnny. I actually did this tour in March and again with same driver in May. In March due to snow part of the tour had to be shortened, road in Wicklow not drivable because of snow. This time we saw it all, great tour. Gardens at Powerscourt are beautiful, and well worth doing this tour to see beautiful scenery in Wicklow and at Glendolough walking around the lake on the trail.
Love it!!!!
We had a wonderful day in the Wicklow Mountains. Noel was a great tour guide and provided us with lots of interesting facts, information and even sang some folk songs and anthems for us. I highly recommend the tour to anyone who wants to see the beautiful countryside and escape busy Dublin for a day
