Excellent day! Graham, our guide, was brilliant. He was very knowledgeable about the areas we drove through and had some great stories. Because it was a small bus he was able to stop for great photo opportunities along the way. Highly recommended!
My husband, grandson, and I were recently on a day tour to Rosslyn Chapel and Hadrian's Wall with Iain. He was a great tour guide. He kept the group on track and had a wealth of knowledge about the sites we visited. He also entertained us with some music and songs. It was a long day since Hadrian's Wall is down in England, but we made several stops to break up the driving. To visit Hadrian's Wall was an surreal experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and Iain! Thank you!
Rosslyn's Chapel and Hadrian's wall were spectacular visits. Our guide got us to the Chapel just as it opened, so we were able to explore the intricate carvings inside before it became crowded. The guides at the Chapel were wonderful too - pointing out iconic carvings and even more recent additions (e.g. musket holes from one of Cromwell's firing squads). Hadrian's wall and the Roman fort were amazing as well. Along the way we stopped in quaint little towns for comfort breaks. My only complaint was that our driver (from the Wee Red Bus company) drove too quickly on the narrow country roads. At times I felt unsafe, and I know others in our tour became carsick.
This was a great tour that took us south of Edinburgh. We actually crossed into England at one point. Roslyn Chapel was fascinating. We walked over to Melrose Abbey and found the burial spot of Robert the Bruce's heart. We also went to the onsite museum which had some very interesting artifacts and doll figures of famous folks associated with Melrose Abbey. Hadrian's Wall was pretty neat, too. Angela was an exceptional tour guide full of information. Great day!
Niall is a wonderful tour guide. This tour was lovely and very interesting and Niall brought the history of Rosslyn Chapel to life. I highly recommend this tour.
Rosslyn Chapel is a very special place a restored fifteenth century chapel dripping with craved stone work. Hadrians wall is hike up a rather steep hill, but a one of kind ruin.
Trip into England-Hadrian Wall and Roman fort, with stop at Rosslyn Chapel. Very historical trip, interesting information given along the way. Guide very knowledgeable, very wet day though.
Eddie was a terrific guide. The trip was a bit long however. There were many stops and small towns along the way that really made the trip better.
This one-day tour to Rosslyn Chapel, Melrose Abbey and Hadrain's Wall was just great. Our tour guide, Graham, was exceptionnaly competent and has a great personality. I highly recommend this tour company (Heart of Scotland Tours). The minivan was just the right size (fits about 12 people) and was very confortable. Thanks again Graham for a great day.
This was an 10 hour trip. We made several stops, some upon request . Some of the roads were really curvy. We had a wonderful pleasant and knowledgeable guide.
The itinerary was perfect, Angela, our wonderful guide, had a good sense of humour, she knew her history and made it interesting, her music was just right and she was a very kind and helpful person. It was our last full day in Scotland and it couldn't have been better. Thanks.
You get MUCH more in this tour than what you pay for. Our tour guide, Angela, was great. Take advantage of all visited sites and make sure you've got on a good pair of shoes- by the end of the day, we did over 22k steps on my fitbit!
The Chapel was beautiful with its carvings and ornate decorations. Hadrian's Wall was located in the England border so got to be in "2 places at the same time" when stopped at the border to take photos of signs sayings "Scotland" and "England" back to back, that was fun. Our guide was very friendly and provided very educational information. I really liked that our guide played various music to introduce us to the history and culture of Scotland. Most of the music was soothing, great to listen to while riding in a comfortable van, on a rainy day, past rolling hills and scenic sights. The lunch stop was great, too. Grabbed a panini from one of the local shops, and ate it on a park bench with a view of an Abbey, could not get any better.
Had a great day. Our guide Angela was brilliant. Rosslyn Melrose and Jedburgh were awesome. Walk up to Roman Fort a fair steep challenge. Ruins very weathered. Not as good as fort at nearby The Chesters which is on flat ground and was excavated so better preservation and appearance.
Angela was the perfect guide for our tour. Not only did she share history about the sites with us, but also she told stories and played music related to our journey along the way. This is a long day with quite a bit is packed into it. Rosslyn Chapel is quite magnificent, but the large number of tourists (two BIG bus tours pulled in shortly after we arrived) visiting the Chapel made it difficult to fully enjoy. Thankfully, Angela provided us with maps of the friezes before we arrived, so we were able to see everything. The 15 minute queue to the toilets was a bit disconcerting. The remainder of the tour was magical: from seeing the Borders area and Melrose Abby, crossing the Scotand/England border into bucolic area of Northumberland, and walking Hadrian's wall. I highly recommend this tour for a day away from Edinburgh.
Overall good. Bus was clean. Driver was on time, very nice, and took good care of us. Weather was terrible. Driver drove very safely. Sites to see were excellent. The drivers commentary was a bit light for me. I wanted more history and less contemporary songs and stories. I mean we were visiting a wall built in 122 AD.
Fantastic Tour - booked through Viator, tour was through Heart Of Scotland - Graham was our driver and he did a fantastic job! Regaled us with stories of Scottish history throughout the experience :)Highly recommend this tour and Heart Of Scotland tour company!ThomasWinnipeg Canada
This tour operated by the wee red bus of Heart of Scotland tours. Our guide and driver was lively and knowledgeable. Rosslyn chapel is beautiful. Loved the stop in Melrose and our lunch spot Hadrian's wall was well worth the drive, although in winter, it is cold, windy and limited time to hike. On the return we stopped in Jedburgh for 30 min. totally unnecessary as the chapel was closed by then and it was dark. It may be a good stop to use restrooms but 30 min for a long day was just excessive. learned alot about history and music. Great guide!!
The region was beautiful with beautil sceneries. I belive the entire group had a wonderful time. The tour guide was friendly, helpful and knowledgeble.
If you book this tour, ask for Graham as your driver. Graham provides a safe, very informative, and funny tour. The stops at Rosslyn Chapel, Melrose Abbey, and Hadrian’s Wall are excellent with ample time to explore the site. The 16-passenger bus is just right for size of the group and size of the bus to negotiate the narrow roads. The path to the museum and site at Hadrian’s Wall is steep, so that might be a challenge to some.
Our trip to Rosslyn Chapel, Hadrian's Wall and the Melrose Abbey was a day very well spent. The tour driver/guide was professional, knowledgeable, courteous and above all fun. The times allotted for the visits to three sites were sufficient to cover those sites. Furthermore, the travel through the south lands and the border areas to see these attractions were breathtaking. I would highly recommend this tour!
We had a wonderful day on this outing with Gregor. He was very knowledgeable about the area and told us many additional facts along with lots of folklore. Great day trip - worthwhile for sure!
