During the month of April, three of us took a nine-day tour of Turkey with Serendipity Tours. Because we have limited experience with guided tours we did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised during every phase of the trip. From the moment that our guide met us at the airport it was clear that we were in good hands. He took care of every detail during our nine days, from selecting the best places to eat, to efficiently checking us into each of the hotels and guiding our visits to cultural and archaeological sites. Our guide has a passion for his country and he is extremely knowledgeable of its rich history. He was so patient as he explained in detail about the current life in Turkey, as well as the history of each archeological site, museum, and mosque that we visited. There was something new and interesting everyday. Our trip took us from Istanbul, down the west coast and then inland to Cappadocia. Turkey in the springtime was lush and green. One highlight of the trip was the unusual landscape of Cappadocia. Several of us took an early morning balloon ride to view the unique formations. It was a very private tour just three of us with our guide and driver. We ate our meals together and had many delightful conversations. We came away with sights that surprised us, and adventures that provided us with enough memories for years to come. This was one of the very best international travel vacations that we have ever taken. We would recommend this tour company to anyone who wants to spend time getting to know this beautiful country.

Our reception at the Istanbul airport could not have gone better. Our guide quickly gathered us up and took us to our very comfortable lodging. That evening he introduced us to Turkish everyday food. The first evening became the standard for the rest of the trip. That high standard of care continued during the entire trip. The lodging and the food far exceeded expectations. One evening we even got to relax at an outdoor thermal hot spring located at the hotel. The freshness, quality, and variety of each meal was an added bonus. I have a B.S. in Anthropology with an emphasis in Archaeology. The sites that we visited were classics of the Bronze and Iron Ages. The Greek and Roman ruins and restorations were among the finest I have seen. Our guide was very knowledgeable on the history and details of each site. The visit to Troy was one of the highlights of the tour. I had prepared for the trip and found our guide supplemented my basic knowledge. I was able to get a feel for the time and people who had lived then and there. I am also a retired military officer and at no time did I feel anxious about my security during the entire visit.
