Jose is knowledgeable about Spanish paintings and we learned a lot from him. The tour lasted short than 1.5 hours, which was much shorter than the advitised 2 hours.
I did not really care for this museum. After visiting the Louvre, vatican and many others this was a disappointment. The guide was knowledgeable and did great so I am leaving 3 stars for that only.
Great modern art. Picasso and Dali included. Easy access from Atocha train station and metro. And air conditioning on hot Madrid summer day. Never a bad thing ! Guide was knowledgable in art, very pleasant and spoke excelllent English
Great guide who is very knowledgeable about the art.
My tour guide Irene was so knowledgable, fluent and enthusiastic... she made it really interesting.. I learned so much and didn't know how the time flew...super recommended if you like art and want to truly appreciate it! Also, you can't get a better value for money than this...I mean it also includes the museum entry and you can spend as much time after the tour inside! Unlike some of the feedback posted in the past, they had two separate tours - one in Spanish and one in English. I happened to be the only one for English - so I got a 'private tour' with Irene - and she was sooo good! Can not recommend Irene enough. Go and do this tour if you're in Madrid!
The guide was talking to 2 people in our group most of the time and ignored the rest of us. the museum has wonderful masterpieces but the building needs an update.
Was surprised it was bilingual since we thought we booked English. Well done but the wait between other languages became a bit distracting.
At US48 pp the cost was at the upper end of the spectrum but our energetic young guide soon had us wrapped up in forms of art that were once, mysteries. She began the tour exactly on time and divided us into two 'listening' groups. One Spanish, the other English. Some may feel deprived of half the guide's time with this format but we were quite content as it gave us private discussion time and an overview of other works in the room that were not focussed when it was our turn. She did an excellent job of explaining everything clearly and progressively in perfect English. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour as we not only saw the 'big ticket items' such as La Guerica, but it also added some detail to key events and characters in the evolution of Spain itself. Would we recommend this tour? Absolutely!
The Reina Sofia Museum is a must-see for any art-lover visiting Madrid. We normally do not book tours of museums and art galleries, preferring to make our own way around them, but the postings by other Viator travellers persuaded us that we would gain more with professional guidance in this case. We were a bit dubious when handed radio receivers, but soon realised that this was the only way of hearing clearly in the crowded galleries. The guide, Irene, was very pleasant, fluent, and exceedingly knowledgeable about the various artistic movements of the early 20th century. The highlight of the visit has to be seeing Picasso's Guernica, and Irene's explanation of this iconic painting was revelatory.
