I was disappointed with the experience. You do not interact with the Amish and visit their home, rather a museum like setting at a commercialized stop. It was a wasted day that could have been completed in half the time on your own. The theatre presentation was sesnsationalized and can not be what the Amish would approve. I did learn some things about the Amish on the home tour, however it is a mock up of what a home would be, not a true Amish home. The bus tour was interesting and the guide was a local who knew all the surrounding farms. You simply drive by at a clipped place, pointing out things through the window. They were organized and prompt with the transportation. You are picked up at your hotel location, transported to the train station, picked up by a taxi service from the train station and transported to the Amish Experience. After the shuttle tour we were ubered back to the train and a shuttle bus picked us up and transported us back to our hotel. Not the tour we had invisioned.
It was promised a amish experience but it did not happen. We stayed most of the time in a facility where some non amish people explained the way of their living. We used a van in the afternoon to see some farms by the window... and one stop in a amish shop. The guide was not very good.
The attractions themselves were fascinating and well worth seeing. The difficulty we had was that the taxi that was meant to meet us at the train station and transport us to the attraction itself didn't arrive and we had to call for another one which didn't arrive until 30 minutes after we were meant to be picked up. The result was that the tight timing of seeing all of the aspects of the Amish Country Tour was upset and if it wasn't for the very good work of the staff at the Amish Experience Offices we would have missed out on the horse drawn buggy ride altogether. As it was that had to be truncated and so we didn't get a full appreciation of that aspect. So the advice is: if the taxi sin't at the station when you arrive, call the taxi company immediately to get one there.
Loved loved loved the tour! All the staffs were super nice and the entire town was just lovely!
it is okay.
My tour was great, well organised and very informative. I would have liked an extra hour to have a buggy ride and talk more with an Amish local. The countryside is beautiful and people are genuinely friendly.
Guide was very good the country side was very beautiful. It was very informative.
It was difficult to find all things , for example the Train, the bus , little information for the steps do. The cinema demonration was somewhat outdated, would be kind to see me the real amish people.
The logistics of getting there and back was terrible. I think the contractor is Philadelphia Trolleyworks. We were told to be ready for our pickup at 7.30 but the driver only arrived at 8. He did not apologise for being late. We could see he was flustered because he was very impatient on the roads, honking and cursing. There was only one other pickup - who had been told to be ready at 7.50 but was only picked up at 8.10. We were dropped at the train station at 8.15, which is way too early for a 9am train. When the train arrived at Lancaster Station, the driver that was waiting for us was in a car that could only take 3 persons even though our party was 5. We had to split up, leaving 2 persons behind to wait for another car to pick them up. Once we arrived at Amish View, everything worked like clockwork and it was really pleasant. The journey back was smooth until we arrived at the Philadelphia train station where the driver who was supposed to pick us up was missing. Our instructions had been to wait between Stairwell 9 and 10. But when no one showed, I called Philadelphia Trolleyworks only to be told that the driver was waiting for us at the 30th Street exit. But when we went out, we could not find him. After a few more phone calls, we were still none the wiser. Eventually after half and hour of confusion, we discovered that he had parked his van a hundred yards away from the pickup point. When we boarded, he was totally ignorant about where he was supposed to drop us off. He did not even know that we were two parties staying in different hotels. Bottom line - all 4 stars go to the Amish View people at Lancaster Country. The Philadelphia Trolleyworks organisation of logistics and communication is just bad.
