This was the last tour of our trip and our guide was terrible. He was very difficult to understand as English was his second language and the group size was way too big. He told us very little about St. Mark's, including no explanation of why St. Mark's tomb was even there. The group was so big that he would point out some things and move on before the entire group could view what he was referring to. He did better in the Doge's Palace, clearly knew more, but spent way too much time talking about every single painting. While I would recommend visiting these sites, I do not recommend this tour company.
Our guide was a lovely guy but moved way too fast, we had to push through other people to keep up. He also had a very thick accent and we could only understand 1/3 of what he was saying. He was very knowledgeable though however it was a shame that we couldn’t understand
We met our tour beneath the blue clock tower in St Marco Square, we were earphoned and boxed-up and taken to the top of the queues (queue jumping! ) The guide was excellent, knowledgeable and moved at a good pace, she was informative and interesting bringing the history and the Palace to life. We then went on to the Cathedral of St Mark (yes one of the 4 gospel writers) fabulous tour, again informative and knowledgeable, we also went up to the perimeter roof of the Cathedral to gain a different and spectacular view of the square - we (the new Mr and Mrs Knell) thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you again!
Great way to experience tjeae two sites for a great price. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Good tour and information about both locations. They did check shoulder and knee coverage more strictly for women then men. Be prepared to have something to cover with or you have to buy something for 2 Euro's.
You meet in St. Mark’s Square about 25 feet to the left of the blue astrological clock. As you walk in from the water side it is straight ahead. Tour operator gives you a headset and then takes you into a private entrance so you get right into the St Mark's Basilica. If ladies don’t have proper dress, the Basilica sells a cover for 1 euro. Tour takes about an hour. Beautiful Basilica. You then leave the Basilica and the Doge's Palace tour starts. Again, private entrance, so no waiting in long lines. Tour takes about an hour. Our guide was excellent. You learn a lot about government, the prison and more. Must see places to visit.
This trip is interesting and is first thing to be done in Venice whether you visit 2 or more days, the skip the line saves you waiting in the scorching sun, and a lot of valuable time, the guide is expert on the theme, and you will never forget passing thru the bridge of sighs.
Our tour was well organized and and the guide seemed extremely knowledgeable. However, between the language/accent and the extremely rapid rate he was speaking, it was very difficult for us to understand everything he was saying. We had fun anyway and loved Venice!
Highly recommend this tour when you visit Venice. The tour company was very organized and professional. The tour guide was very, very knowledgeable and had a great personality!
Well organised, the guide was amazing and spoke excellent English. Very knowledgeable of the locations and ensured everyone stayed together.
Our guide was well informed and brought to life what could have just been room after room of huge paintings.
The tour was amazing, the lady who was our tour guide was very detailed about the doge’s palace and marks basilcia cathedral. The tickets also allowed us to enter 3 different museums in the square.
The venues are incredible. Skipping the lines was great. The tour guide we had was abysmal! She didn’t seem to care about the group and felt like she was reading from a script. Very curt when asked questions about pretty much anything. At one point our guide tried to tell a separate tour group they needed to move to give our group front and center access to a piece of art (while they were in the middle of their own tour). Towards the end my sister and I were both more than ready for our guide to be finished. I would recommend visiting both of these sites but please, find a different company to book through. Also good to note this tour does not include any extras, including the upstairs of St Marks to see the statues of the Horses of Saint Mark-Lysippos.
I took this tour reading rave reviews ,wanted to hear those unheard Doge rulers stories and what not. But quite frankly didn't find it that engrossing. Now I feel I could have spent the money on something else Now if you are really a student of History and more so of Roman History and know your Doges then this may be for you. But history isn't your fancy and the words Gothic and Renaissance mean nothing to you, then just skip this.If you really want to spend your money get the tickets to Doge Palace St Marks is free entry for 20 Euros.Or even just take pictures from outside and save some bucks for the Gondola ride. Our Guide was good and knowledgeable and had lot of information, so have nothing against him and thanks to him at least I gained some information. You do get to see a lot of art work and of course World's largest oil painting canvas, the jail, the bridge of sighs etc. So think about it, what you want of your visit to Venice, knowledge or some striking pics for Instagram. If its the first then go for it ,if its the later then don't bother about it.
Our local guide was extremely knowledgeable and really made the tour enjoyable. I would recommend this tour.
Doge's and the Basilica were great, the skip the line worked well. However I must rate the tour low as the guide kept going forward and leaving half the tour! We never heard anything about the bridge of sighs as he never got the group together before going that way . I was extremely disappointed about that. There were 8 of us all without a guide and had to find him!! It was very frustrating .I tried to contact Viator to voice my concern before rating this which was even worse! There contact me has no way to message them. When I tried to pull up the booking from yesterday it said it didn't exist. Sorry but due to a poor guide that didn't keep his group together I can't rate this as a good your .
Amazing place and fantasctic story teller! Recommend to all!
The tour was fine. However one of our party has trouble climbing huge numbers of stairs and so was stressed. Viator needs much specificity (like the cruise lines do on their tours) about difficulty walking, distance walking and if there are a large number of stairs.
