Kumrovec - Late Yugoslav President birth place - Historic gastro tour Zagorje

Kumrovec is municipality in Croatia, to be precise, a small place located in a region North of Hrvatsko Zagorje.

Hrvatsko Zagorje is cultural and historical region of Croatia, mostly hilly place, with green surroundings, many forests and hills. Beautiful region with picturesque countryside. It has a great tourism potential due to the large number of monuments, castles, spa and churches.

Kumrovec is most famous for it’s Ethno village where Josip Broz Tito was born. Yugoslav late president Tito ruled dictatorially till his death in May 1980. Communist leader and dictator, the chief architect of the 'second Yugoslavia', a socialist federation that lasted from World War II until 1991, lived here and in the socialism, many political courses were held here as well. Even at that time, Tito’s village was one of the must see in ex Yugoslavia. Beautiful ethno village represents the expression of life in those small houses and surroundings. It is also known as the "Old Village” and it all started when monument was built in front of Tito’s birth house. This beautiful village is a perfect example of folk architecture of this region, arranged as Ethnographic Museum, gives you the opportunity to become familiar with the history of this place. Just a few miles/kilometers away, as a opposite point of view of Kumrovec that represents Yugoslavia, is Zelenjak and it is a place where Monument to Croatian national anthem is located. This monument is “Omaggio” to the place where late author of Croatian anthem wrote ‘Our Beautiful Homeland’. Antun Mihanović, famous Croatian writer and lawyer, gained fame because of this poem published in 19th century.
