Get ready to fall in love with the city of Zagreb with an immersive tour through the city’s cobbled streets, mingling with locals as you go. Start in Ban Jelacic Square, a traditional meeting point in the centre of Zagreb. Then it’s off to ride the world’s smallest funicular to Upper Town. Measuring 66 metres long, the funicular connects Upper Town and Lower Town and also happens to be the oldest public transport system in Zagreb.
After a visit to 13th-century St. Mark’s Church with its colourfully tiled roof and the nearby medieval Stone Gate, you’ll have a chance to stroll vibrant Tkalciceva Street, home to hundreds of cafés and bars — and an ideal place for our first coffee break of the day. There will also be lots of time to check out Dolac Market, the main market of Zagreb. Hungry? This is the perfect place to taste some fresh, organic food straight from local farmers.
Next up, you’ll witness firsthand the multicultural history of Zagreb, something visible everywhere in the city, including at Zagreb Cathedral (home to one of the world’s finest pipe organs) and the stunning central cemetery, Mirogoj — which we’ll visit via local bus. Known as one of the most beautiful resting places in Europe, there are graves here representing many religious groups.
Then it’s back to Ban Jelacic Square for a second coffee break before paying a visit to the statue of legendary inventor Nikola Tesla, who was born in the small Croatian village of Smiljan and is beloved throughout Croatia. Next, we’ll head underground to see the city from a subterranean perspective. Zagreb is home to many medieval underground tunnels, and we’ll explore one of the newer ones to get a better sense of the city’s past.
Throughout the tour, you’ll also discover the Art Nouveau style of buildings like the Croatian National Theatre (some tourists have nicknamed it ‘the yellow cake’), while also taking in historic sites like a 500-year-old pharmacy and Zagreb’s oldest university.
You could spend a lot of time in Zagreb getting your culture fix. The city is home to more museums per capita than any other city in the world, and your local guide will recommend some of the most interesting ones to check out after your tour has finished — like maybe The Museum of Broken Relationships? This fascinating museum houses all kinds of interesting mementos from failed relationships. Emotional? Yes. But also something you don’t want to miss.
There’s really no better way to get to know Zagreb than with a guide who has knowledge of every corner of the city — one who will ensure you get the most out of your visit and come away feeling like a local.

Most relaxing easy walk through old nd new town great views and storytelling would recommend their delightful walk.
Our tour of Zagreb with Vito was excellent. He was very knowledgeable of the area and it’s history. He had great stories that even my mom, who was born in Zagreb, didn’t know. Vito took his time and answered all of our questions. We would highly recommend this tour if you plan to visit Zagreb. Thank you Vito, this was the highlight of our trip!
